Lake Nona Region is an up-and-coming community within the city limits of Orlando, Florida.
The Lake Nona community in southeast Orlando began its life as a path for Indian feet crossing the region and enjoying the lake. Today, it's a planned community built around a stunning lake, with an equally stunning golf course surrounding it, and minutes from the airport, shopping, food, entertainment, schools, and more. Come along and tour the loveliest portion of Orlando and Orange County.
Lake Nona is Booming!
As of the 2015 census, 50,000 people lived on 17 square miles of land. By 2020, that number should double. The medical and research community centered in Lake Nona draws many people to the area. New homes are being built almost faster than a couple blades of grass can be found without a house on them.
Four schools educate the children, while over 700 Orlando policemen keep everyone safe. Most people drive to work, while some take the train, bus, or bike. Lots of commuters walk. Lake Nona rates high on rating websites for its walkability.
The majority of Lake Nona residents own their homes and are employed in white collar jobs with an average income of $70,000. A quite respectable number of residents are self-employed, while the majority work in the private sector. Over 800 are government employees.
The Lake Nona Region features the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, Lake Nona's "Medical City", as well as a growing number of retail outlets.
Lake Nona's "Medical City" is a centerpiece for biomedical research and education, and is the home to:
- UCF College of Medicine
- Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute
- Orlando VA Medical Center
- Nemours Children's Hospital
- University of Florida Academic and Research Center
The Lake Nona Region is also the planned future home of the UCF Health Sciences Campus with the addition of the College of Nursing and College of Dental Medicine.
